Malawi\u2019s new administration of president Mrs. Joyce Banda has continued unlocking several windows of assistance to help cure the deteriorated economy inherited from the previous DPP government.<\/p>\n

First it was Zambia with five million liters of fuel, and now president Banda announced on Monday at the burial of former president Bingu wa Mutharika that South Africa has provided Malawi with fuel to last for 30 days.<\/p>\n

\u201cAm also grateful to the president Jacob Zuma of South Africa for providing Malawi with fuel to last one month\u201d Said Banda at the burial ceremony<\/p>\n

Apparently the pledge was made by a delegation that from South African government that met Joyce Banda on April 13 at area 12 state residence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a fruitful meeting with her Excellency Madam Banda and in assisting this country to alleviate its sufferings, we pledge to assist especially on the fuel side,\u201d said Mrs. Maite Mashabane South Africa\u2019s Minister of International Affairs during a media briefing after the audience with the Head of state.<\/p>\n

According to Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority MERA Malawi consumes about one million liters of fuel per day therefore this suggests that South Africa has provided Malawi about 30 million liters.<\/p>\n
