{"id":9402,"date":"2012-04-22T07:21:47","date_gmt":"2012-04-22T07:21:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/?p=9402"},"modified":"2012-04-22T07:21:47","modified_gmt":"2012-04-22T07:21:47","slug":"obama-calls-for-talks-between-sudan-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.faceofmalawi.com\/index.php\/2012\/04\/22\/obama-calls-for-talks-between-sudan-south-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama calls for talks between Sudan, South Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> US President Barack Obama called for an end to fighting between Sudan and South Sudan and negotiations between the leaders of the two countries to settle their conflict.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know what needs to happen &#8212; the government of Sudan must stop its military actions, including aerial bombardments,&#8221; Obama said in a videotaped message to the people of the two countries.<br \/>\n<div id=\"attachment_9405\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Obama.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9405\" src=\"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Obama-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Obama\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9405\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9405\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Urged the government of Sudan must stop its military actions<\/p><\/div><br \/>\n&#8220;Likewise, the government of South Sudan must end its support for armed groups inside Sudan and it must cease its military actions across the border,&#8221; the president added in the address released by the State Department.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The presidents of Sudan and South Sudan must have the courage to return to the table and negotiate and resolve these issues peacefully,&#8221; Obama pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal came after Sudan said on Friday its forces had chased South Sudanese troops out of its main oilfield as the South ordered an end to its 10-day occupation, a move which had sparked fears of a wider war.<\/p>\n<p>Border clashes between Sudan and South Sudan escalated last week with waves of air strikes hitting the South, and Juba seizing the Heglig oil hub on April 10.<\/p>\n<p>Since the invasion, production at Heglig has been shut and facilities there are leaking.
