{"id":7432,"date":"2012-02-23T13:42:19","date_gmt":"2012-02-23T13:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/?p=7432"},"modified":"2012-02-23T13:42:19","modified_gmt":"2012-02-23T13:42:19","slug":"no-imf-programme-no-donor-support-eu-envoy-tells-malawi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.faceofmalawi.com\/index.php\/2012\/02\/23\/no-imf-programme-no-donor-support-eu-envoy-tells-malawi\/","title":{"rendered":"No IMF programme, no donor support, EU envoy tells Malawi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/100-dollar-bill.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/100-dollar-bill-300x129.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"100-dollar-bill\" width=\"300\" height=\"129\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1179\" \/><\/a>Malawi should forget about getting balance of payment support from its key donors any time soon in the absence of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, Alexander Baum, the EU envoy to Malawi, has said.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi has been hit by an aid freeze since last year when it\u2019s key donors withheld budget support aid and the IMF suspended the Extended Credit Facility programme due to concerns over Mutharika\u2019s creeping autocracy, which has resulted in economic mismanagement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout an IMF the fear is that money from the donors to support the budget would not be used in an appropriate and effective way,\u201d Baum said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very difficult for us to have confidence and resume support in the absence of an IMF programme,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Since January last year, Malawi has not received any budget support which normally accounts for about 40 percent of the budget.
