\"\"This is heartening.\u00a0The\u00a0International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care<\/a>\u00a0(IAHPC) calls for applications for a bursary scheme to support palliative care in sub-Saharan Africa. This program is made possible thanks to a grant from the\u00a0Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund<\/a>\u2018s Palliative Care Initiative.<\/p>\n

Individuals living and working in Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n

Bursaries will be awarded in two categories:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Postgraduate qualification courses in palliative care:\u00a0<\/strong>Courses need tobe in institutions which are government accredited and academically affiliated and for post graduate level leading to a certified and government recognized formal degree (ie Distance Learning Diplomas, MSc\/MPhil).<\/li>\n
  2. Research courses:\u00a0<\/strong>On basic research and methodology, including study design, statistical tools, statistical analysis and applicability, writing grant applications for research and preparing a paper for publication in peer-reviewed journals.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Applications must be received\u00a0three (3) months<\/strong>\u00a0in advance of the course starting date. Preference will be given to individuals applying for courses based in Africa.\u00a0Applicants may only apply for one of the two bursaries.<\/p>\n

    The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Fund\u2019s\u00a0Palliative Care Initiative\u00a0is \u201ccommitted to spending up to \u00a310 million to promote the scale-up of palliative care in sub-Saharan Africa. The desired outcome is that palliative care is accepted as an essential part of, and integrated into, the care and treatment of people with HIV\/AIDS, cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.\u201d<\/p>\n
