{"id":1674,"date":"2011-05-03T10:05:09","date_gmt":"2011-05-03T10:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/?p=1674"},"modified":"2011-05-03T10:05:09","modified_gmt":"2011-05-03T10:05:09","slug":"zim-pair-in-big-brother-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/new.faceofmalawi.com\/index.php\/2011\/05\/03\/zim-pair-in-big-brother-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Zim pair in Big Brother Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1675\" title=\"news_bbig-brother-amplified-250\" src=\"http:\/\/www.faceofmalawi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/news_bbig-brother-amplified-250.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"225\" \/>A FAST-SPEAKING model seeking to relaunch  her career and a 23-year-old male virgin are Zimbabwe\u2019s representatives  in this year\u2019s African Big Brother TV show which got underway on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Big  Brother Amplified is the sixth series of the M-Net show, and this year  features two contestants each from 12 of the 14 participating countries.<\/p>\n<p>Zimbabwe,  Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Namibia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia,  South Africa, Kenya and Botswana have two contestants each while  Mozambique and Angola have the single representative.<\/p>\n<p>Vimbai  Mutinhiri, 24, and Wendall Parson, 23, entered the Big Brother in the  Lyndhurst area of Johannesburg hoping to do one better than Munyaradzi  Chidzonya, who finished as a runner up last year.<\/p>\n<div>On offer is a US$200,000 cash prize for the winner at the show\u2019s expected 91-day run.<\/div>\n<p>Model  Vimbai, or Miss V as she prefers to be called, describes herself as  \u201cfun-loving, spontaneous and highly intelligent as well\u201d, but for one  who has volunteered to have their every move in the Big Brother house  followed by cameras, it is perhaps surprising that she adds: \u201cMy privacy  means a lot to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>On Monday, Nigerian housemate Karen laid into Vimbai, accusing her of speaking with an \u201cAmerican accent\u201d.<\/div>\n<p>Vimbai took offence, asking her why she would be on Big Brother Africa if she was American.<\/p>\n<p>She added that though she didn&#8217;t necessarily owe anyone an explanation, she had lived in too many countries as a child.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You  can talk to me for an hour and my accent changes five times &#8230; you  might even get some Chinese out of me,&#8221; said the Zimbabwean whose  profile reveals she holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree in  Politics, Philosophy and Economics and speaks four languages \u2013 English,  Shona, French and basic Serbian!<\/p>\n<div>Fishing enthusiast Wendall, the first white housemate, has already claimed to housemates that he is a virgin.<\/div>\n<p>Commercial  pilot Wendall, from Harare, said: \u201cIf I won the money, I would  definitely have fun with it and see what happens after that. I\u2019m in the  house to stir a bit of trouble, to keep it exciting and to keep people  on their toes.<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI have entered Big Brother because it\u2019s a great challenge and something I have always wanted to do.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>Big  Brother may be dead in the United Kingdom where it started due to  falling ratings, but in Africa it appears to be going strong and M-Net  Africa and its creators, Endemol, are cashing in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" width=\"250\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"50px\">Advertisement<\/td>\n<td>\n<hr \/>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"3\"><ins><ins id=\"aswift_0_anchor\"><\/ins><\/ins><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>M-Net  Managing Director Biola Alabi said: \u201cBy definition amplified means to  increase the volume, to make louder, to make more powerful. And that\u2019s  exactly what we want to do with season six. To take the elements that  audiences find so fantastic and present them in a refreshing new way  while adding big surprises and entertaining twists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmplified is  such a well-known pop culture term and Big Brother has definitely become  a pop culture success.
