Police chiefs have banned IT staff from using the word blacklist over fears it is RACIST.The computer term whitelist \u2014 used to denote a list of acceptable contacts \u2014 has also been outlawed.<\/p>\n

In an email, Scotland Yard warned staff the words were no longer \u201cappropriate\u201d.<\/p>\n

Security services chief Brian Douglas wrote: \u201cIB (Information Board) are uncomfortable with the use of the term Whitelist (and I presume Blacklist).<\/p>\n

\u201cI am sure we can appreciate the sensitivity around the use of such terminology today so please ensure it is no longer used.\u201d He suggested using green and red list instead.<\/p>\n

Sources at the Met \u2014 where 20 officers are under investigation over alleged racism \u2014 branded the decision \u201cbizarre\u201d.<\/p>\n

One said: \u201cDo we really think these words are discriminatory? The truth is they\u2019re nothing to do with race whatsoever and are very common IT terms. Banning them won\u2019t solve any genuine problems the Met has with racism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scotland Yard said: \u201cThis is not a change in policy.<\/p>\n
