A French court has sentenced 72-year-old Dominique Pelicot to 20 years in prison for orchestrating a series of assaults on his wife, Gisèle, involving 50 men over a period of 10 years.
According to BBC reports, Dominique would drug his wife, rendering her unaware, and then invite other men to assault her. The incidents remained hidden from Gisèle for years.
Gisèle, who has been married to Dominique for 50 years, stated that she wants her case to raise awareness, as many women face similar abuses without realizing it.
The court found all involved guilty, with each individual receiving appropriate prison sentences for their roles in the assaults.
