Social and political commentator Humphrey Mvula has said that it is high time duties of the vice president were legally defined in the constitution.
This follows the appointment of Everton Chimulirenji as Minister of Disaster Management Affairs and Public Events.
President Peter Mutharika created the ministry last week after delinking it as a department in the office of the Vice President whose incumbency reverted to Saulos Chilima, an acknowledged nemesis of the president and his DPP.
As things stand, Mutharika seems set to continue side-lining Chilima from the government affairs rendering him ineffective since the vice-president’s office operates through delegation from the president.
