A student at the Malawi Polytechnic in Blantyre was killed Monday night after a vehicle hit him along the Masauko Chipembere High Way.
Southern Region police spokesperson Nicholas Gondwa identified the deceased as Eliamu Munthari.
“The accident occurred when the student was crossing the road at around midnight. He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, where he died,” said Gondwa.
The student, according to Gondwa, was heading back to polytechnic campus from the Annex where he went for studies.
Police have since detained driver of the lorry, Mr. Leonard Bisado. The lorry registration number MJ 5451, was heading to Chichiri from Johnston Round about.
The incidents has rekindled memories of a similar accident in which one student was killed and another injured after a lorry hit them on the polytechnic zebra crossing two months ago.
