A policeman who was drunk in Zambia has released 13 suspected criminals to allow the people to celebrate the new year of 2025.
The BBC report states that the policeman, Detective Inspector Titus Phiri, was arrested after he freed the suspects from the Leonard Cheelo police station in Lusaka city.
At the moment, the police are still searching for the individuals who escaped from custody, having committed crimes such as theft and assault.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said Mr. Phiri took the keys to the cells from his colleague, Constable Serah Banda, and opened the cells containing the suspects.
So far, Phiri has not commented on the matter and has been detained at the local police station.
