Police in Lilongwe have arrested former Minister of Finance Joseph Mwanamvekha, who also serves as the vice president of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in the southern region.
His lawyer, Kalekeni Kaphale, has confirmed the arrest but did not provide specific details regarding the charges.
Reports indicate that Mwanamvekha is being held in connection with alleged involvement in corruption linked to the Salima Sugar Company scandal. Other senior government officials under the DPP regime are also reportedly being summoned by the police for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge soon.
