A 4-year-old boy, Joshua Kamoto, has died after being hit by a lorry at Nkando Trading Centre in Mulanje district.
According to Mulanje police assistant spokesperson Hawa Juma, the accident occurred along Robert Mugabe Highway when the driver of a Scania lorry, registration number KU 860, overtook a cyclist carrying Joshua as a passenger.
During the maneuver, the rear body of the lorry hit Joshua, causing him to fall and be run over by the rear tyre.
Joshua was rushed to Thuchira Health Centre but was pronounced dead upon arrival due to severe head injuries.
The cyclist fled the scene.
Joshua hailed from Nkalo Village, Traditional Authority Nkalo, in Chiradzulu district.
