Michiru View Private Secondary School in Blantyre has been closed indefinitely following a fire that damaged the staff room and the headteacher’s office. Several students have confirmed in separate interviews that the fire started around midnight, with reports suggesting that it was sparked by student unrest.
The students expressed dissatisfaction with the school’s management, particularly regarding unresolved concerns about the quality of food provided to them. This unrest is believed to have led to the fire.
Blantyre Deputy Police Spokesperson, Mary Chiponda, stated that police were called to the scene at approximately 2 am and were able to restore order. However, no arrests have been made, and investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
Headteacher Morris Kaboni declined to comment on the situation.
In the aftermath, most students have left the school campus, and the school remains closed for now.
