Two men, Faniel Nkhoma, 30, and James Kanongo, 29, have drowned while swimming in Lake Malawi at Lamulungu, Senga Bay in Salima district. The boat they were in capsized and sank.
According to Salima police spokesperson Rabecca Ndiwate, the deceased were on the boat along with seven others in the Boat Yard area, which is known for being deep.
Ndiwate explained that Nkhoma and Kanongo were pronounced dead upon arrival at Salima Hospital.
The police have advised boat owners on the lake to ensure they have safety equipment to protect lives.
