Lilongwe Police has taken into custody a 21-year-old Brian Banda, for vandalizing and stealing Lilongwe Waterboard meters and pipes at Chitedze location on Tuesday.
According to Lilongwe Police Spokesperson Inspector Hastings Chigalu the suspect, who was working as a watchman at a certain personal estate, alleges that he vandalized the property due to frustration following failure by his employer to pay him his monthly wages.
Chigalu has told us that the suspect vandalized and stole four water meter systems belonging to his employer and nearby neighbors.
“Investigations by the station’s detectives, traced the suspect who was moving up and down in Mtandire location, searching market for the Waterboard’s valuable property.
“In the meantime, Lilongwe Police has stepped up efforts to combat the sudden increase in vandalism of public’s valuable property including that of Waterboards, ESCOM, and other infrastructures in the district”,Said Chigalu.
The suspect, who hails from Mponda Village, Traditional Authority Chikumbu in Mulanje District, will appear in court soon to answer Vandalism and Theft charges.
