Immigration officers asked to desist from taking bribes

In a bid to enhance speedy passport processing and curb corruption, Immigration Commissioner Vivian Kasambo has warned officers against exploiting the recent passport printing crisis for personal gain.

Speaking in Mangochi during a meeting with officers from the eastern region immigration establishment, Kasambo emphasized that Malawians expect a swift process without the need for bribes.

“It is wrong to indulge in corruption just because there are a lot of people applying for passports,” Kasambo stated. “We expect passport processing to be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis.”

He also revealed plans to establish passport printing offices in additional districts such as Mzimba, Salima, Karonga, and Chikwawa to ensure easier access for citizens.
