A 51-year-old woman from Kkoma Ward in Gwembe district in Zambia has died after being attacked by a hippo early Thursday morning.
Gwembe District Commissioner Killian Chikandula, who relayed the development to Byta FM News, identified the deceased as Violet Mujoni.
Chikandula explained that the incident occurred around 03:00 hours when Mujoni was attempting to scare away the hippo that had invaded a maize field near the river.
Area Councilor Emmanuel Nakajola revealed that the deceased has left behind six children. He appealed to relevant authorities to urgently address the rising human-animal conflicts in the district.
