Police in Balaka have arrested five people over vandalism of Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) property worth K7, 647,000.
The incident happened at Govati Village and Phombeya Sub Station within Phalula in Balaka District.
Gladson M’bumpha, Public Relations Officer for Balaka police identified the suspects as Rodgers Mkwanda, 28, Stanford Chabwera, 30, Christopher Kababe, 24, Ephron Mtambalika, 30 and Binton Banda, 41.
The suspects are suspected to have vandalised Escom wires and vandalising copper wires.
All suspects will appear before court soon to answer charges of theft by servant, vandalism and receiving stolen property.
