Youths Seeking Israeli Jobs Turned Away by Police

Police has dispersed youths seeking job opportunities in Israel who wanted to voice their concerns at the Ministry of Labour at Capital Hill.

The chairperson of the group, called Israeli Job Seekers, Dingiswayo Kumwenda, stated that over fifty youths from various regions of the country gathered at the gate of the government offices, but police stopped them, advising them to first contact the relevant officials.

However, the youths said that those who had entered the premises earlier in the day had not been able to meet with the officials, leading the police to mistrust them, even though they had letters of authorization.

Last Friday, the youths informed a press conference in Lilongwe that they had decided to suspend their planned strike from June 3rd to June 10th to allow for discussions with the ministry.

They now want to resume their strike today, claiming the government has not provided satisfactory responses to their demands to work in Israel.
