A 20-months-old child has died while six other family members from the area of group village headman M’maniwa under Traditional Authority Mizinga in Machinga have been hospitalized after eating suspected tubers called Nyambi.
Grandmother to the deceased, Hadijah Misolo says the family consumed the tubers last evening and later the child started vomitting at around 9 o’clock last night, before the other members of the family including parents developed similar poisoning symptoms.
Group village headman M’naniwa says his subjects are being forced to eat such tubers due to the hunger that has hit the area, hence asking for an immediate intervention.
