For the past years Mwanza boarder has been the highest collection entry point among all boarders in the country.
The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has disclosed that, on average, the boarder collects 18 billion kwacha monthly with almost 70 trucks carrying 2.1 thousand tonnes worth of cargo per day.
MRA’s Mwanza boarder post station manager, Rachel Kaphyela attributed the highest collection to the nature of the goods that goes through the boarder.
“There is more traffic cargo that is being handled by mwanza boarder and this makes the boarder to be the highest collector among all boarders in the country.” said kaphyela.
She added that the physical features at the boarder have gone a long way in curbing the smuggling issue.
