Residents of Kobyo village, under Traditional Authority Chisovya in Rumphi, gathered at Rumphi Police Station to demand the release of Misheck Gondwe.
Gondwe, aged 42, was arrested for allegedly assaulting James Mbewe and damaging his house.
Village leader Wisdom Chagaya Gondwe asserted that Misheck Gondwe is falsely accused, acknowledging only land disputes between the two.
Despite the villagers’ plea, district police spokesperson Sub Inspector Noel Kamchenga stated that Gondwe will not be released and will face charges in court based on James Mbewe’s complaint.
The arrest follows allegations of assault and property damage.
