The First Grade Magistrate Court in Kasungu district has sentenced a 19-year-old boy, Hopeson Phiri to 14 years in prison after he was found guilty of raping a 16 year old girl.
The public prosecutor, Ulemu Botha told the court that this happened on the night of 30 November 2023 at a school where all of them were schooling in the district, where the girl was sleeping with other girls in a rented house.
According to Botha on that day the girl say that she suspected that a stranger had entered her house and after some time she was been touched and soon she started feeling pain in her private part, and when her friends screamed the boy ran away.
He said at that time he could not be recognized because it was in the dark.
On 3 December this year it’s when the story was known after one of the girls heard Hopeson Phiri who said to be in the same class with the girl, and Hopeson Phiri after seeing the girl he started laughing and started saying that “So you are the one who was screaming at night when I was sleeping with your friend.”
When the girl heard this, she reported the matter to the principal of the school and the police arrested the boy.
