Machinga Police Public Relations Officer Ngwashape Msume has confirmed the drowning of two men, Stanley Gwaza, 24, and Alinafe Mungoni, 29, in the Shire River where they were fishing.
Msume said the two have drowned around Liwonde Barrage, .
It is reported that Gwaza was using a canoe which capsized in the water due to loss of balance and he drowned after failing to swim to the bank.
Mungoni was reportedly fishing using a hook which got stuck in the river and he dived into the river to disengage it before he drowned.
Msume said Gwaza’s body was founding floating at Chipamba area along the river while that of Mungoni is yet to be found.
