His Excellency Dr. Lazarus MacCathy Chakwera, today, 3 March 2022 has honored Late Honorable Orton Edgar Ching’oli Chirwa on the sidelines of this year’s Martyrs Day Commemorations.
Honorable Orton Chirwa was the Founder of the Nyasaland African Congress and first leader of the Malawi Congress Party which was formed while His Excellency Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda was detained in Gweru Prison, in Zimbabwe.
President Lazarus Chakwera and Madam Monica Chakwera laid wreaths on the tomb of late Orton Chirwa at Manolo Village in Nkhata-Bay.
Addressing the family of Late Hon. Orton Chirwa, President Chakwera described Orton Chirwa as a man who lived beyond his time, of a great vision, and of formidable courage.
The MCP Leader later indicated that the Construction of a modern mausoleum, houses for family members, security officers, and library for Orton Chirwa to start soon at Manolo village of TA Timbiri in Nkhata-Bay.
After, honouring Hon. Chirwa, His Excellency Dr. Lazarus MacCathy Chakwera proceeded to NkhataBay jetty, where he is attending this year’s Martyrs Day Commemorations service.
