Malawian Women Seek Stay Limits for Husbands in South Africa

There is a concern that married men trekking down to South Africa in search of greener pastures and staying there for years are depriving their wives of conjugal rights.

In the wake of these concerns, traditional leaders in some parts of the country are pushing for legislation at local levels to spell out a duration on which a married man can live behind his wife and go to stay in South Africa.

Such a by-law, according to Malemia Chiefs Forum will help in the protection and respect of conjugal rights for women as being shared by Mathias Chilumba, secretary of the forum.

Meanwhile, Lukes Kalilombe one of the senior officials in the ministry of local government has told local media that they have advised the traditional leaders to push their concerns with the ministry of justice and constitution Affairs.

Speaking to the local press, Kalilombe said the challenge being registered was bigger and beyond Nsanje as women in Mangochi and Mzimba were registering the same complaint.
