Angry People Demolish Houses For People Suspected To Have Voted For MCP’s Mwalwanda In Karonga

Ugly scenes are being reported at Mwenilondo in Karonga Central Constituency as angry people have demolished houses belonging to suspected Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters.

According to the information at hand, the communities were irked after MCP candidate Leonard Mwalwanda get votes in the area which is believed to be a stronghold for the United Transformation Movement (UTM) party, an alliance partner in the ruling Tonse Alliance.

According to unofficial results Leonard Mwalwanda of MCP is leading with 6, 763 votes, ahead of Frank Mwenifumbo of UTM who has got 6, 021 votes.

According to Frank Black, Karonga police deputy publicist has since confirmed receiving reports of violence from the area and says investigations are underway.

Meanwhile Louis Nkhata, district coordinator for Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has called for peaceful co-existence as people are waiting for an announcement of the official results by the Malawi Electoral Commission.

By elections were held in Karonga Central Constituency, Lilongwe

North West Constituency and Makhwira South Ward in Chikwawa East Constituency.
