An angry mob yesterday descended on a resthouse called Mulungu Samana at Chintheche Trade Centre in Nkhata Bay district destroying property.
According to information at hand, the resthouse was accommodating National Statistical office (NSO) staff conducting a Behavioural Biological Surveilance Survey (BBSS).
The angry mob is accusing the NSO staff of being bloodsuckers as their survey apparently includes collection of blood samples of participants who include commercial sex workers.
It took the intervention of the law enforcers to disperse the angry mob by firing teargas.
Unproven stories of bloodsuckers have spread from Mzimba, Kasungu, Ntchisi, Dowa, Mchinji and Nkhata Bay.
So far over 50 people have been arrested in connection to bloodsucking rumours.
