Coronavirus cases in South Africa have increased exponentially from 402 to 554 in less than 24 hours.
The country’s Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize confirmed the development in a televised national address this morning.
Although no fatalities have been recorded as yet, two people are reported to be in the intensive care unit (ICU) and in critical condition.
Dr Makhize also revealed that the number is likely to increase in the following weeks as the country battles to contain the spread of coronavirus which was renamed Covid-19 by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
