Mulanje citizens give mining explorers 7-day ultimatum: Warns of ‘traditional’ option
The group, calling themselves as ‘Mulanje concerned citizens’ has given mining explorers including Spring Stone Limited, a company that is exploring rare earth elements on Mulanje Mountain, seven days to stop its activities or face action.
“So as the rightful custodians of this mountain, we will not permit further destruction of this God-given source of life. They should get out of this district or there will be blood shed in this land…. You don’t just mine on the mountain without considering the lives of the people. We have already started suffering the consequences of their activities and we will not watch them tampering with our lives in the name of creating wealth for our country.”
